What’s the Story?
Prepare yourself cause you about to experience the latest edition of Arsenal Insider, soon. In case you don’t know about Arsenal Insider, it is an intra-club football tournament, that Arsenal Bengal Supporters Club conduct as their annual fundraiser every year.
Through this tournament Arsenal Bengal Supporters Club (ABSC) try not only to collect money to help the less-fortunate to the best of their abilities but also to bring forward certain social issues and generate an awareness to help eradicate them.
A Look-back at the Arsenal Insider
Last year the focus was on gender inequality. It is a shame that a social evil such as this would still be rampant in our society. So Arsenal Bengal SC organised a couple of football tournaments, one for girls and the other for boys.
While the girls’ tournament was for raising awareness about how unfairly oppressing gender inequality is, on the other hand the boys’ tournament was about raising funds. All the fund collected would went to a couple of girls orphanages in the city.
Arsenal Media covered the event and posted this video on their Facebook Page
The day started with the girls tournament. 3 teams took part. One of the three teams comprised of girls aged between 6-16 from The Hope Foundation (an Ireland based NGO set up in both India and Ireland). The second one comprised mostly of girls from St. Xavier’s and Amity University. Where as the third team comprised of students from Modern High School.
Unfortunately, The Hope foundation team were the first one to crash out even though they showcased grit and strength. The final, which was a showcase between the Modern Girls High school team and the team based on girls from St. Xaviers and Amity University, was a breathe-taking exhibition of football.
Modern High School went on to clinch the match by only a fine margin and with that, the tournament. Bhagyashree from St. Xaviers was adjudged as the best goal keeper and Navya Khanna from Modern High School was adjudged to be the best player.
The boys’ tournament was kicked off later on the same date. The tournament had six teams participating. Out of those 6 teams, Footballistically Gooners FC and Atom & Humber FC reached the finals, where Atom & Humber FC won after a penalty shootout.
Manpreet Singh and Susnata Dasgupta from Footballistically Gooners FC were chosen as the best player and the best goal keeper, respectively. Sheikh Hafiz from Atom & Humber FC finished as the tournament’s top scorer.
At the end of the day, both the boys’ and the girls’ tournaments accomplished what the organizers set out to do. While the girls thrilled everyone with a fantastic exhibition of football. Made a point that given the opportunity, girls can shine as brightly as any guy can. The boys’ tournament pulled in a sum of Twenty Six thousand, all of which were out for charity.
“We hope that we showed how the stereotypical cliché of football being a sport exclusively for males is wrong. Now let us join forces so that we can drive away gender inequality and other misogynistic fads away.” – Arsenal Bengal
