Bugatti was founded at Molsheim, France (now, then Germany) in 1909 by Ettore Bugatti. In 2005 the company launched it’s flagship model the Veyron. Which immediately was a huge success. The Veyron had a 8 liter W16 engine which produce 1200 bhp. Before Veyron, the highest bhp that a production car had got was no more than 1000. The Veyron was the first of it’s kind to open up the segment of Hyper Cars.
After 12 successful years of Veyron, Bugatti has come up with a new engineering marvel, the Bugatti Chiron. The engine of the car is basically build on the N.A w16 of the Veyron, but this time with 25% increased bhp. Ninty five percent of the Chiron engine was newly built. The engine is equipped with 4 turbochargers. At start, two turbos gets going. Only when the engine rpm reaches 3800, the other two kicks in producing approx 1500 hp and 1180 lb of torque. The car goes from 0-100 kmph in just 2.4 sec reaching a top speed of 418 kmph (which has been kept limited by the company). The Chiron has a 100 lit fuel tank. At full speed it can drain all its fuel in just 9 min! Crazy, isn’t it?!
To test the new engine a new facility was built and new water pump has been fitted to circulate 800 lit of coolant per minute to nullify the heat of the engine. The transmission is a 7-speed dual clutch all wheel drive. The powerful engine also needs a huge amount of air flow. The body aerodynamic of the car is designed in such a way that the side vents suck the air and lead it directly to the engine compartment. The rear of the car is typically designed so that it creates a sub pressure zone for about 1.5 meters, which is to suck out the hot air from the engine compartment.
When car is going more than 400 kmph, a big question that arise is “How the hell would I stop this jet?!” Bugatti has done a remarkable job on the braking system of the Chiron. The brakes are made of carbon silicon carbide and it’s now bigger at 20mm on each wheel. To cool down the brakes effectively, the bumper vents were obviously not enough. So, a channel was made just beside every headlamps, which sucks in the air and sends it directly to the brakes, at high pressure.
To handle 400+ kmph a new set of tires was necessary to be put on the car wheels. These were specially made for the Chiron by Michelin. The carbon fiber monocoque is a result of top level aerodynamics and the superb design of the car. The monocoque has a stiffness of 50000 NM degrees. The amount of carbon fiber used in making the car if stretched, it would wrap the earth for more than 70 times. The front lights are stunning and the back light stripes are made of 82 LEDs. The audio system delivers a crystal clear sound from the four tweeters which has one carat diamond on each of it’s membrance. Besides the electronic steering, 5 modes of driving is offered in the Chiron for the drivers. The naturally aspirated Hyper Car is priced to at 2.5 million Euros (Yes! You heard it right). On top of that the company has also made the car super exclusive by stopping the production at 500 only.
